The European Union has taken the initiative in starting to set rules for dealing with artificial intelligence on the territory of the European Union. Their latest effort in this direction is the Artificial Intelligence Act. This is the first set of rules in the world that comprehensively regulates the use of artificial intelligence systems.

EU Regulation on Artificial Intelligence: Czech Companies Not Exempt

The purpose of this regulation is create rules in such a way that we – individuals and companies – benefit as much as possible from artificial intelligence, while minimizing its misuse or undesirable impact.

At the same time, with the AI Act, the European Union is sending a clear message to companies and corporations working with AI that it is time for them to start intensively training their employees in AI.

The existence of AI and its application across industries cannot be avoided and to use it effectively and beneficially, employees need to continuously update their AI literacy.

And how much time do companies have?

  • The Artificial Intelligence Act will come into force as early as August 2nd
  • The regulation as a whole will take effect on August 2nd
  • However, the obligation for employers to increase their employees’ literacy in the area of AI begins as early as February 2025.

And what if companies don’t start educating their employees?

For the moment, the AI Act does not envisage penalties for non-compliance with mandatory AI training. The European standard, however, seeks to convey that this is a crucial topic to which business owners and managers should pay close attention – and not only to increase their competitiveness.

The new rules also classify AI systems according to their risk levels: unacceptable risk, high risk, limited risk and minimal risk.

For example, AI that uses subliminal manipulation techniques, classifies people based on biometric data, or some instances of predictive policing will be banned.
